Hello Animal Advocates, FAST Academy!

Welcome to this Faunalytics course on Using Research in Animal Advocacy. In this short video, I'm going to give an overview of all of the modules we will be covering in this course. So first of all, a little bit about me.

My name is Björn Jóhann Ólafsson, the Research Liaison for Faunalytics. You can find my email down here in case you want to reach out (bjorn@faunalytics.org). I'm very friendly. I don't bite. What I do at Faunalytics is I work one on one with advocates to make sure that they both understand the data, understand the research, and then can apply it to their work.

So, if you're ever curious about anything, if you ever want to understand some study, if you're trying to find a study, if you're trying to figure out how to make the studies work together if you're confused about something—I am the person to reach out to. Feel free to let me know your questions.

So what is Faunalytics? For 20 years, Faunalytics has provided animal advocates with access to research, analysis, strategies, and messages to help them be more effective for animals. If you're not familiar with us, we are the research backbone of the animal advocacy group. We provide the data, we provide the research, we provide the studies, we provide the resources. We are trying to uplift advocates like yourselves to make sure that your work is as impactful as it possibly can be. Um, in a later module, we'll jump into many more of our resources, but for now, I think this is sufficient. Feel free to check out our website in the meantime, if you're not familiar with this.

Here are the modules that we'll be covering. In the 1st module, we will go over the 5 uses of research in animal advocacy. In module 2, we will talk about how to find research on Faunalytics specifically. And then in module 3, this is a text based resource, not a video – I will be giving you more resources that are practical that you can apply to your work. And I'll also be providing one more text document that has links to all of the research that I mentioned in all of the videos, so you can read all of that.

And finally, the end of the final video will have a little surprise for everybody. So make sure to keep watching everything, — stick around, I think you will enjoy it.

That’s it! I look forward to the next lesson. I'll see you there.
